One of the most deeply rooted traditions in the recent past of Castelló d’Empúries is the celebration of the Cavallada organized by the Grupo Cavallista de Castelló.
Groups of horsemen from all the counties of Girona, Barcelona and Catalunya Nord take part in the event.
The Cavallada begins with the concentration of the participants in the esplanade of the Hort d’en Negre.
Then there is a popular breakfast and the parade begins, which runs through the streets and squares of the historic center.
One of the busiest squares is that of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, where the blessing of the cattle takes place, in front of the doorway of the Basilica of Santa Maria.
Finally, there will be the presentation and exhibition of the participating horses and carriages.
